CECAFA KAGAME CUP-2015: Giants Yanga and KCCA resuscitate their campaigns

By Bonface Osano,

Djibouti Telecom 0-3 Yanga SC (National Stadium)

Yanga eased past group A whipping boys Djibouti Telecom 3-0 to bounce back to winning ways in an emphatic fashion.

Malimu Francis Busungu shook the net twice in the 26th minute and in the 68th to give the “Jangwani” boys a comfortable lead, before Godfrey Mwashiuya sealed the three valuable points with a late strike in the 73rd minute.

The score margin would have been wider but the Coach Hans Van De Pluijm charges for the second time failed to convert penalty, this time missing two, with Amiss Tambwe and Simon Msuva the guilty ones, a worrying trend as the competition enters knockout stages. Captain Nadir Haroub missed one in the 2-1 loss to Kenyan giants Gor Mahia in the opening match on Saturday 18th July.

Telecom is pretty much out of this tournament after the third straight loss. Yanga is third in group “A”; the battle for top spot is between Gor Mahia and current leaders Al Khartoum, the two have six points a piece with the latter having a better goal difference.

KCCA 1-0 ADAMA CITY (Sheikh Abeid Karume Stadium)

Tom Masiko converted from the spot to seal the vital win for the Mayor’s boys. Masiko stepped forward to score the penalty after Derrick Nisibambi was fouled by Adama keeper inside the box in the 69th minute.

Both KCCA and Malakia have three points each in group “C” which Azam tops with six points. The last match between the two (KCCA Vs Malakia) will determine who joins the Chamazi side, Azam FC in the last eight. Ethiopia’s Adama, just like Telecom,is effectively out of this year’s KAGAME Cup after the two consecutive loses.
