Zambia were held to a 2-2 draw by South Africa in Saturday’s 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifying match at the Buffalo Stadium on Saturday.
The hosts took the lead early into the encounter through Gift Motupa and Mario Booysen added a second after the break.
Tercious Malepe was sent off late after he was shown a straight red after the sexond bookable offence.
Chipolopolo came into the game a few moments later through Martin Phiri.Minutes before the end of the game Shonga scored with a neat strike.
South Africa had an opportunity to extend the lead before the Zambia’s equalizer through Dumisani Zuma but he scoffed his attempt.
Earlier on in first half both teams were content to kick around in midfield before the game went into the break.
It was the hosts who failed to make maximun use of their opportunity at the restart as Wiseman Meyiwa profited from a Nsabata blunder but sent his effort wide
Zambia will host South Africa for the second leg next weekend in Lusaka.
