Cameroon beat Sao Tome 2-0 to give coach Rigobert Song his first win in charge of Indomitable Lions ‘A’ in the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) first leg,third round qualifying tie in Sao Tome on Saturday.
Indomitable Lions get off to a winning start away and victory sees Song’s troops sitting at a better chance of making it to the the finals that will be hosted in Nairobi early next year,thanks to goals from Frantz Pangop and Raymond Fosso in the 42′ and 75th’ minutes respectively.
Raymond Fosso penalty helped Indomitable Lions make the all-important victory to place them in ideal position for the return leg match next wekend at Omnisport Stadium in Limbe.
Junior Awono nearly gave the visitors the lead 22 minutes thanks to Messi Boula whose breakaway on the left set up the cross for Awono.
The home side had a chance to get the lead just minutes after Frantz Pangop goal from their captain glanced free kick but the ball went off the crossbar.
In the 60th minute, came close to double their lead through Willy Namedji but he slipped while pulling the trigger from a cross from the right with the ball going wide.
Again in the 63rd minute, Joe Kafana also slipped a shot on the upright from a Abouem Maya cross but Indomitable second of the evening came in the 75th minute from the penalty spot after Bertnard Owudi Kamara was brought down in penalty area.
Frantz Pangop stepped up roof the ball for his seventh goal for Indomitable Lions.
Sao Tome do showed some bit of fighting spirit with 15 minutes from the clock but their efforts were easily collexted by Alphonse Tietcheu at Cameroon goal.
