Isaac Sserunkuma scored the lone strike as KCC overcame a stubborn Malakia side 1-0 in their last Group C encounter at the ongoing Cecafa Kagame Cup in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The forward capitalised on a through pass from Hakim Ssenkumba to find the back of the net past Malakia goalkeeper Kennedy Santolino to give the Ugandan outfit an early lead in the 15th minute.
KCC captain Tom Masiko had earlier missed a chance in the second minute after he took long to send a shot at goal and was tackled at the edge of the box with the resulting freekick going straight into Santolino’s hands.
KCC could have doubled the lead in the 23rd minute but Martin Mpuga’s header hit the woodwork from Dennis Okot’s well-taken cornerkick.
Malakia showed their clear intent to find an equaliser in the second half when Clement Bedo attempted to chip KCC goalkeeper Emmanuel Opio but the custodian tipped his attempt out.
Striker Shaban Kondo sent a superb pass into the box but Santolino was quick off to save Ssenkumba’s attempt.
KCC defended well as a unit and held onto their lead to pick maximum points that sent them to the quarterfinals as second-placed in Group C with six points behind table leaders Azam FC who have nine points.
