By Bonface Osano,
AFC Leopards three-match unbeaten streak was today brought to an abrupt end in the hands of hard fighting Sony Sugar FC in a 2-1 away loss to the millers from Awendo.
“Ingwe” missed the services of head coach Zdravko Logarusic who failed to travel with the team. The Croat refused to make the long trip to western Kenya unless paid accumulated salary and allowance arrears which run into millions.
The team took to the field under the guidance of deputy coach Yusuf Chip.
The Sugar men started the post “Zico” era brightly, netting first in the 45th minute through Victor Ademba to the delight of the home fans who have never tested victory for ages.
Former Gor Mahia midfielder Joseph “Pablo” Njuguna leveled matters in the 80th minute, but the home side were not done yet as Samuel Onyango converted from the spot to secure all the three points, halting Leopards’ renaissance in the league.
Leopards remain fifth on the log with 34 points from twenty fixtures, while Sony climbs to 12th with 19 points with a game at hand.
