Sofapaka’s Kenya Premier League title charge was dealt a heavy blow by Ulinzi Stars who beat them 2-1 at Kericho Green Stadium Wednesday.

Defending champions Tusker on the other hand buried a two-match losing streak with identical 2-1 victory against visiting Zoo FC at Ruaraka grounds.

Cliff Kasuti headed home Oliver Ruto’s cross in the 52nd minute to put Ulinzi in the lead after a balanced first half.

Harambee Stars international Samuel Onyango guided in Kasuti’s well-placed assist for the second for the soldiers in the 52nd minute.

Red hot Umaru Kasumba reduced the deficit for the Batoto Ba Mungu off Willis Ouma’s assist in the 67th minute but it was late in the day to deny the hosts all the three points.

Sofapaka maintain the second position in the KPL table standings on 41 points – six off leaders Gor Mahia who take on Chemelil FC today.

The 2009 champions, could further drift off the title race if Gor win against the Millers in Kisumu today.

Tusker redeemed themselves with a 2-1 triumph over Zoo – ending a two-match winless record.

Humphrey Mieno got Tusker on the driving seat in the 52nd minute but Kepha Ondati leveled in the 73rd minute before super sub Stephen Owusu grabbed the winner eight minutes later.

The Brewers climb to eighth on the log with 38 points while Zoo drop to twelfth on 29 points.

In another match of the day, Sony Suger dampened AFC Leopards resurgence – edging them 1-0 in Kericho.

Yema scored the lone goal in the first half for the Millers’ third straight win.

The two exchange positions in the KPL standings with Sony climbing to 13th and Leopards dropping to 14th.
