Gor Mahia Venturing beyond Kenyan borders

Kenyan premier league Champions Gor Mahia seem to be on a mission. Often chided by rivals as lightweights outside Kenya, they appear eager to dispel that infamous tag and demonstrate that they are indeed a force beyond the frontiers. Granted, they are a cut above the rest in Kenya, if the past couple of seasons are anything to go by.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

While they are away slugging it out with the region’s big boys at Cecafa, the chasing pack at home is busy trying to play catch-up. Ironically, as they sweep all before them in Tanzania, their high perch at the summit of the Kenya Premier League is still way beyond the rest. As a matter of fact, they are enjoying their time in Dar Es Salaam, without unnecessary distractions happening back home in Kenya. Contrary to last season in Kigali where they had to contend with lots of unwanted mental baggage, they are rolling this term.

They left Rwanda without a single win, but to their credit went on to lift the local league.

In Tanzania, Khartoum National, a team they tied with in the group stages, stands in their way of a dream final. The Sudan side is not an easy prospect, but the camaraderie in the Gor Mahia camp suggests they are a flowing river, unstoppable.

THREE YEARS BACK TO BACK

In hindsight, the Kenyan Premier League is their’s to loose. That one is done and dusted. The chasing pack must make do with the wooden spoon. However, what their fans crave is a continental crown, or regional at the very least. It has been a while since they came this close, and deservedly so. They have at least three hours of solid concentration and focus to take the Kagame Cup to Kenya. If they manage to pull this off, the rest of their season can be played with their eyes blindfolded, with zero negative effect, literally.
