34-year-old Egyptian national Amr Fahmy has been appointed the new Confederation of African Football Secretary General.
Fahmy succeeds 37-year-old Moroccan Hicham El-Amrani who quit this year following the defeat of former CAF boss Issa Hayatou by Ahmad in March.
Fellow Egyptian Essam Ahmed took over the reins from Hicham, who had served for six years, on a temporary basis.
Fahmy will be deputized by former Ghanaian international Anthony Baffoe.
Baffoe will be in charge of football and development while the second deputy Essadik Alaoui from Morocco will take care of administration and finance.
Fahmy graduated from Arab Academy for Science and Technology with business administration in 2004.
He is also a FIFA Master ( A Master in Management and Law of Sport).
Between 2007 and 2010 Fahmy, who speaks four languages (French, English, Arabic and Italian) served as CAF’s assistant manager of international competitions.
He rose to the manager’s position of the CAF’s division from 2010 to 2015.
He was the manager of the CHAN from 2011-2015 and also was the assistant coordinator of the 2016 Olympics.
Since 2016 he worked as the communications manager of television rights broker company Lagadere as marketing and communications manager.
Amr becomes the third person from the Fahmy’ family to hold the Secretary General post after his grandfather and father.
Baffoe’s appointment is in line with President Ahmad’s pre-election promise to rope in former players in his administration.
Baffoe said:
