Mortada Monsour brushed aside his sole challenger Ahmed Soliman to win a second term as president of Egyptian giants Zamalek SC.
The elections took place at the club’s headquarters over two days starting yesterday with 43,600 members taking part.
Mortada, a lawyer by profession, garnered an overwhelming 60.8 percent of the votes to floor Soliman, a former goalkeeper trainer of the Egypt’s national team.
The election heralds Mortada’s second stint as the head of the White Castle.
He was first elected in 2014 in an election he defeated Kamal Darwish and Rauf Gasser.
His tenure has been marked with hiring and firing of coaches at will. For the first time a while, the team failed to secure a continental slot next year after a dismal performance in the league.
Ahmed Galal Ibrahim and Hany El-Attal were elected Mortada’s first and second vice presidents. The two supported Soliman for the top seat.
The newly elected board included Hany Zada, Alaa Meqled, Sherifa El-Far Abdallah George and Ismail Youssef. The treasurer race saw Hazem Yassin beat Saif El-Ammary.
