Morocco might look for a different team to play a friendly match with in March because Belgium now refuses to play them due to security reasons.
Earlier last week, various Moroccan news outlets reported that the Moroccan Federation had arranged a friendly game between the Moroccan and the Belgian team.
In an interview with France24 televison on Monday, FIFA match agent , Youssef Hijoub, said that The Red Devils pulled out because their authorities have raised security concerns in North African countries including Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria.
“Belgium sent us a response saying they will not play Morocco because of the security concerns,” said Hijoub as translated from French.
The two teams last met in Brussels on March 26, 2008 with Morocco beating the European giants 4-1.
At one point of the match, Moroccan fans invaded the pitch making the match officials to stop the match for 10 minutes before the police were able to achieve order.
Morocco wanted to use March’s friendly game to prepare for Group B 2018 World Cup matches where the team is placed against Portugal, Iran and Spain.
The Atlas Lions will now play against Iran on June 15 and against Spain on June 25 next year.
