By Lorraine Ruto,
Trouble is looming once again in the Kenyan football circles after the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) rejected the new 4 and half year deal signed between the Kenyan premier league and betting company SportPesa.
FKF have written to World Football governing body (FIFA) questioning the deal that they have termed as irregular and unsanctioned by both the federation and FIFA.
Speaking exclusively to Soka25East.com FKF President Sam Nyamweya gave his verdict concerning the new deal.
“We as the federation totally reject the new deal that is crafty and not within FIFA statutes. This deal was hurriedly done to benefit a few people without looking at the integral issues like did it go though the FIFA requirement of due deligence”
“The rule stipulates that any betting company must be given clearance by both the federation and FIFA before such a tricky deal can be passed. We have written to FIFA on the same and the Kpl must be reminded that the federation owns all commercial rights and this game that we see a few people joining hands in the names of clubs to get deals to benefit themselves individually will not be tolerated at all”Sam Nyamweya told Soka25east.com
Nyamweya also evoked strong sentiments when he asked why the sponsorship figure was not announced to the public “Where on earth does a company announce sponsorship then fail to mention the figures concerned? This is what leads to corruption and under hand deals in football and we shall not stand and watch the game tainted in Kenya”he added.
