The Benin Football Federation (FBF) are understood to have started their search for qualified candidates to fill in the vacant Squirrels coaching role once Tchomogo’s contract expires.
Though the federation president Moucharafou Anjorin has remained mum regarding possible successor to Tchomogo ,it is understood that the federation is not ready to renew the former Benin international striker’s contract.
It is widely speculated that the former Haiti coach, Patrice Neveu, is the favorite to take over the country’s hot seat.
Speaking to an insider at the FBF headquarters in Cotonou,Soka25east now understands that the coach who was among the shortlisted to take Sudan national team job few days ago is among the shortlist of candidates to take over the outgoing Tchomogo.
The French-born tactician is said to be joined on the list by former Ivory Coast coach Michel Dussuyer as well as former Mali coach Alain Giresse.
“Nothing has been finalized yet.But those three coaches are the ones to be considered for the job,”said the insider.
“I can’t tell you anything now regarding the date of the announcement of who will succeed Omar Tchomogo.
“One of those three men will take over the reins at Les Ecureulis.”
Dusssuyer and Giresse are out of contract with their last jobs being with Ivory Coast and Mali in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations that took place in Gabon in January.
Neveu will not be new to African football, having previously coached four African nations namely Niger (1999), Guinea (2004-2006), DR Congo (2008-2010) and Mauritania (2012-2014).
His best achievement was helping Mauritania qualify for CHAN that was hosted by South Africa and making the team rise by 73 places in the Fifa rankings (from 206th to 133rd).
It remains to be seen who will take over the reins at the West Africa football giants.
