Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA)  has put former Rwanda coach, Johnny McKinstry, Cranes caretaker coach,Moses Basena, Sebastian Desabre and Belgian Emilio Ferrera on a shortlist of candidates for the position of Cranes’ head coach.

On Friday the FUFA technical committee announced the four names that they have sent to the sports ministry,awaiting for the new coach’s official announcement before the end of this year.

McKinstry,32, had previously coached Sierra Leone before he joined Aamvubi where he took the team to the quarter finals of the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).

Basena has been coach of the team since Serbian Milutin ‘Micho’Sredojevic quit the job three months ago because of accumulated unpaid wages.

Desabre, 41, who is a former coach of Cameroonian side Cotton Sport,has  never coached a national team but has a wide knowledge of African football with a lot of experience from North Africa.

Among the sides that he has previously coached include Esperance in Tunisia, Egypt’s Ismaili and Wydad Casablanca in Morocco.

Ferrera,50, is current coach of the under-21 side at Belgian champions Anderlecht and was once in-charge of RC Genk.If appointed he would be working in Africa for the very first time.

The new coach is expected to start work with the 2018 Total Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco. Uganda Cranes are in Group B alongside Zambia, Namibia and Cote d’Ívoire.
