Wydad Casablanca president Siad Naciri has fired African Champions League winning coach Hussein Amotta following a poor domestic form.
Amotta’s entire support staff was equally not spared in the radical purge aimed at quelling internal strife and stabilizing the record “Botola’ champions.
“After bad results, the club’s board held a meeting on Tuesday and decided to end the contract of head coach Hussein Amotta and his technical staff,” the club said in a statement.
Amotta led Wydad to a record 19th Botala title in 2017 before crowning the successful season with the African Champions League gong which came after a 25-year-wait.
He made the final shortlist for CAF Coach of The Year Award alongside Nigeria’s Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr and Egypt’s Hector Cuper but lost to the latter.
Wydad find themselves 12th in the 16-team league – 13 points behind leaders Hassania Agadir in the title defense.
A 2-1 loss to Kawkab Marrakech Monday was their second on the trot and a 6th in fourteen outings this season.
“We respect he coach but we are all working for Wydad and so that’s why we took the decision to end Hussein Amotta’s contract and we wish him all the best,” the club explained.
Amotta took over from the current Uganda Cranes coach Frenchman Sebastien Desabre January 2017.
AFCON 2017 winning coach Hugo Broos is linked with the job.
