The body of the former Cameroon international Benjamin Massing will be laid to rest today at his native village in Songbegue where his footballing career started.
Massing died on December 9,2017 at the age of 55 after a long battle with undisclosed ailment.
The former Indomitable Lions defender body was reportedly removed from the Edea General Hospital on Friday, ahead of today’s funeral programme.
Massing is remembered for his hose crunching tackles at the World Cup in 1990 which earned him an infamous reputation.
His tackle on Argentina’s Claudio Caniggia was dubbed as one of the worst tackles in World Cup history as the Indomitable Lions cruised to a 1-0 win in their opening encounter.
Massing also appeared in the quarter-final of the tournament but unfortunately Cameroon lost to England (2–3) where he was booked for conceding a penalty after he was judged committing a foul on Gary Lineker.
Previously, in the match against Argentina, he had received another caution after bringing down Diego Maradona.
Massing, who played in France at Creteil, won 34 caps for his country between 1986 and 1992.
