Harambee Stars head coach Paul Put is among coaches touted to replace Guinea tactician Kanfory Lappe Bangoura who was fired after a disappointing 2018 Africa Nations Championship (Chan) campaign for the Syli Nationale, according to reports.
Put’s name is being discussed by the Guinea Football Federation (Feguifoot), who are waiting for president Antonio Souare to return from the Africa Nations Championship tournament in Morocco before announcing Bangoura’s successor.
Several high-profile coaches have been linked with the vacant position at Syli Nationale, including Hugo Broos who has also been mentioned, but reports in Conakry reveal that Put is in pole position to land the job.
The Belgian, 61, is best remembered in West Africa for guiding Burkina Faso to a runners-up place finish in the finals of the 2013 African Cup of Nations which was held in South Africa.
Put has already recorded some impressive results as head coach of the Kenya national team, guiding them to East and Central African Championship trophy in December last year, a month after his appointment.
Put may choose to jump ship following the CECAFA triumph, as the target for African teams will be to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, and Kenya “is not well-placed to do so”.
