Morocco will face off with Libya in the 2018 Africa Nations Championship semi-final at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca, kick-off at 7.30pm EAT.
Surprise semi-finalists Mediterranean Knights, will look to upset the applecart once more, however, in their way stand an Morocco side looking as solid as can be.
Morocco led by coach Jamal Sellami disposed Namibia 2-0 in their quarter-final while Libya had a tougher passage, finally overcoming Congo 5-3 on penalties after their semi was locked at 1-1 after extra-time.
“We were able to control our last against Namibia and we scored in key moments and made good changes in the process,”said Sellami.
“Libya has a good team and we know we will play against a great team. We need to focus and not to make mistakes against Libya. My players have a lot of experience on the pitch.
The game between Morocco and Libya brings memories of North African derbies where the Atlas Lions have claimed five wins compared to two for the Knights in the 11 official matches they have played.
“We’re working with the mental state of our players because I believe tomorrow will be tougher. The two countries have a mutual respect and that translates to the two football federations and the people but we have a match to play and we want to win,” added Sellami.
“I completely trust my players and we have a good balance in our team. Abdelilah Hafidi has only played two matches but we have managed to bring players who really did well and we hope luck will be on our side.
Libya have had a mixed run to the semis, with their group stage campaign marred by a defeat to Nigeria, while their quarterfinal victory over Congo on Sunday night came via penalties.
Their coach Darko Novic says he is ready for the challenged posed by the Moroccan team who are the hosts of the tournament but his worried of inexperience of his players.
“This is not our senior national team because I have 14 players who are playing at a major competition for the first time.
“Fatigue will get over us but we will be 50 percent ready for the game and the winner will get the other 50 per cent. Morocco have a great team and they have really progressed in football so I will be happy if we beat them tonight.
However, Novic is worried of injury of one of his key players but he is confident his squad can fill the empty space.
“I have an injured player but its a minor one so we will have a strong team to start. We have a plan if we go to extra time.”
