Nigeria national team goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa will miss the final of this year’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) against Morocco.
The Enyimba goalkeeper suffered a leg injury against Sudan in the semi-final on Wednesday after he collided with his teammate Stephen Eze and he was substituted for Dele Ajiboye.
According to The Sun, Ezenwa will be out of action for at least three weeks as the custodian suffered a meniscus tear.
“Ezenwa will be out for three weeks, which means he won’t be available for the final game,”the paper quoted undisclosed source.
“We are proud of his quality contribution to the team success in the tournament, we also have capable replacement which gives the team a balance.”
Ezenwa place will be taken by second choice keeper, Ajiboye, who kept Nigeria alive with several world-class saves in the semis.
Both Nigeria and Morocco will be meeting for the first time in the final of the championship since its inception.
Nigeria’s best outing at the competition, was when they finished third under Stephen Keshi in 2014. They failed to progress beyond the group stage in the last edition in Rwanda.
