Spanish giants Athletico Madrid are reported to be interested in enlisting the services of Moroccan forward Ayoub El Kaabi.
The 24-year old, Renaissance Sportive de Berkan’s striker, had a stellar performance while playing with the Moroccan national team during the recently concluded African Nations Championship (CHAN) where he emerged top scorer with nine goals.
Moroccan media is reporting that Abdel Majid Madrane, the Renaissance Sportive de Berkan’s deputy president, has confirmed there are talks between his club and a Spain-based agent on El Kaabi move to Los Rojiblancos.
“Athletico Madrid have expressed a desire to sign Ayoub- El Kaabi,” he said as quoted by Asaabah.ma
Well-placed sources has revealed to us that El Kaabi could join La Liga side in summer as Diego Simione, Madrid’s manager, is losing patience with his strikers over the team failure to score enough goals.
El Kaabi previously played for Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca in 2016-2017 season before moving to little known second division side Renaissance Sportive de Berkan.
He made his first international debut for Morocco a fortnight ago against Mauritania, scoring two goals during his first match in the 2018 CHAN.
The towering forward also shined in Morocco’s second match with a magical hat-trick against Guinea on January 17 and also scored in the final of CHAN as Morocco beat Nigeria 4-0 on Sunday to lift the African trophy.
