As their poor tactical approach leave them hanging.. .

As GBFC will attempt to overturn a four-goal deficit in the CAF Champions League preliminary round , what does history and current form say about their chances?

Green Buffaloes need a miracle.

That is the generally accepted wisdom ahead of the second leg of their CAF Champions League Preliminary round against Al Masry , and it is backed up not only by a glance at the current state of GBFC compared to their Egyptian opponents but also by a look at the history books.

No team has ever recovered from a four-goal first-leg loss in the history of this competition in its modern form, with only nine teams ever coming back from so many as two goals behind at the halfway stage.

Green Buffaloes need five unanswered goals to progress, any goal that they concede will mean they will also be down on away goals rule.

The matter which makes this dicey more complicated is failing to get an way goal which would have been a glimmer of hope. As it stands they have nothing to look up for.

Al Masry know it’s not over yet and they have 90 minutes to play, they will be cautious.

This is the beauty of football, because in football you never know and I think that experience is even good for Al Masry to avoid this kind of problem, they will be focused on this one.

If we were being ultra critical of Green Buffaloes we might note that they were poor in the first leg and they played the AL Masry game.

They should have maintained the four back defenders at any time in the first leg. The counter attack of Malan Gondwe opened them further. That was a poorly tactical game by Bilton Musonda.

Green Buffaloes are just coming from a two months off season and already the fitness levels are not up to date.

Al Masry, on the other hand, are gathering steam at just the right time – as Hosan’s teams tend to.

They have not lost in six of their six games after the beating of Green Buffaloes, scoring 12 goals and conceding just three in that run.

The last loss was on 13th January at Al Ahly is the only blip, they look good.

They have rolled over everyone they have faced since then, however, and Green Buffaloes’ only hope might be the chance that those simple victories have given the Egyptians a false sense of security going into their clash at Nkoloma.

The mountain is huge and they may just have failed to cross to the promised land.
