AS Vita thrashed Be Forward Wanderers 4-0 in a CAF Champions League preliminary round clash that was played at the Omnisports Stade de Matyrs on Sunday night.

The encounter had a lively start, with the Congolese having two half chances, one for midfielder Munganga Oba, and another for in-form striker Binga Ilinga. But their efforts failed to hit the target within the first five minutes.

The home side finally broke the deadlock three minutes later when Jesus Muloko powerful strike connected well with a cross from his teammate Emomo, and beat Richard Chipuwa in the Nomads goal.

Wanderers’ midfielder Peter Wandabwa who looked lively in the night, hit the cross bar, and immediately at the other end Vita midfieder Ngonda Muzinga also struck the bar just before half an hour mark.

Mukoko Batezado made it 2-0 on the 32nd minutes and Mundele Makasu scored the third goal towards the end of the first stanza.

Just six minutes into the second half, Nomads had their best chance of the match but Rafik Namwera’ s classy long-range effort hit the woodwork.

Midway through the second period, substitute Bafolo Dido almost registered his name on the scoresheet after beating a flat-footed Chipuwa but his strike went over the bar.

Nomads nearly pulled one back a minute later, when Blessings Tembo forced AS Vita shot-stopper Muderekeza Muchumu into a brilliant save.

From there on Be Forward Wanderers dominated the ball possession, creating clear cut opportunities which the Malawian side couldn’t convert into goals.

In the 87th minute the Congolese sealed the home victory, with Muloko registering a brace to make it 4-0 with a fine finish.

Now Wanderers have been left with a rather very difficult task as they must beat Vita in the return leg in Lilongwe by over four goals to have any chance of progressing in the competition
