This week Taita Taveta County is set to unveil their county soccer team
A 25-member football team has been recruited to form the county official football team after vigorous trials held in all the four Sub Counties.
Speaking at Dawson Mwanyumba stadium this morning when he visited the team during their practice in preparation for a friendly tournament to be held this weekend, Governor Granton Samboja urged the team to maintain high standards of discipline saying, this virtue is vital in having a successful career in sports.
The County boss added that many talents have gone to waste due to drug and substance abuse.
After being unveiled this Saturday, the team will hold a friendly match with SOY football club from Kakamega as from 2:00 PM at Dawson Mwanyumba stadium in wundanyi.
The Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa and the Harambee Stars coach Stanley Okumbi will be among dignitaries who will grace the event.
Sport director Leonard Otieno has confirmed that the team is all set for this weekend’s march.
“The players have been in the camp since Monday in preparation for the match. We are happy that there are no injuries at the moment, all our players are in good shape and ready for the friendly match,” said Mr. Otieno
The County Government through the department of sports is in the process of procuring branded uniforms for the team. week Taita Taveta All stars is set to be unveiled by the Taita Taveta County Government in a ceremony to be graced by Football Kenya President Nick Mwendwa alongside area Governor Granton Samboja, his deputy Majala Mlaghu ,four area MPs and MCAs
According to the County Director Sports Leonard Otieno ,a total of 25 players from a pool of 300 who have been on trialswere picked
The team which after its formation will seek to join the FKF league which begins next week and according to FKF South Coast Chairman Gabriel they may join the third tier
The 25 players will be put on the county payroll and their main mandate will be to play football
Counties have started identifying themselves with sports with soccer clubs being their main interest.
Kisii County, Busia County , Meru County and Narok are some of the counties that are in the process of building or coming up with teams
