Sofapaka continued with their good run of form, beating Posta Rangers 2-1 in a Kenya Premier League match played at Machakos Stadium on Saturday.
The match took its time to come to life, but just before the half hour mark there were finally notable scoring chances at either end, with Kilume Mohammed heading just wide for Batoto Ba Mungu before Kepha Aswani sent an ambitious volley off target just a few moments later.
On 32 minutes Posta Rangers striker Keneddy Otieno was granted the best chance of the half by a fine cross from Joseph Mbungi, but he sent his header just wide of the mark, much to Mathias Kigonya’s relief.
On the side Sofapaka impressive start to the match paid off in the 40th minute as Stephen Waruru found the back of the net for the opener, after Kevin Kimani’s by free kick.
Jeremiah Wanjala nearly stole the equalizer with a minute to the break, but the Sofapaka goalkeeper did well again, as his team led 1-0 after the first 45 minutes.
Sofapaka continued where they left off in the first half as they once again took control of the match creating more goal scoring chances.
Kepha Aswani was also causing havoc for Stars, as he combined with Kevi Kimani and he got his maiden goal on the 48th minute through a powerful shot past Matasi to make it 2-0.
Posta also fought back and had a few chances to get back into the game, but found the home team very solid at the back.
The match looked destined to end without BatotoBa Mungu conceding a goal, but in the 80th minute Garison Likonoh picked up a ball on the edge of the box and proceeded to send a superb volley beyond the reach of Kigonya.
Sofapaka seemed to be winning the battle as they held on to their lead during scary dying minutes of the match, for the three valuable points to maintain their great run in the new season.
