The Cameroon national team interim head coach Alexandre Belinga has named a 23-man squad for the international friendly against Kuwait on 25th March, as part of preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
It is a pretty much unchanged squad from former coach Hugo Broos’ previous teams but a swathe of familiar faces are set to make a return to the national team.
Carol Kameni comes back in after opting out of the team since last year due to club commitments as Kana Biyick, Andire Onana and Stephan Bahoken are welcomed back having earlier quit the national team due to off field issues.
There is however one surprise inclusion, former France youth international Bahoken Stephane who plays for French Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg.
Vincent Aboubakar retains his place in the squad after an impressive showing in the past matches in Indomitable Lions colours while Joel Matip rejected the chance to resume his international career.
It has to be noted that normalisation committee of the Cameroon Football Federation President, Dieudonné Happi had to convince the stars having held a meeting in Paris with some of these players amongst Samuel Eto’o,the former national team captain.
Cameroon don’t need to qualify for the 2019 Afcon tournament, but they will ‘compete’ against Malawi, Comoros and Morocco in qualification Group B in a series of warm-up fixtures.
