Wolaitta Dicha is a name that now common with East African nationals and even the entire Africa .
The small club from Southern Ethiopia eliminated Egyptian giants and five times winners of the CAF Champions league Zamalek in a dramatic penalty shootout in Cairo.
Wolaitta Dicha a team that has been in existence for only nine years moving up the ranks to the top league will now move into the play offs of CAF’s second tier league
The club traces its formation nine years ago when the Wolayitta ethnic group of Southern Ethiopia who are among the 56 nationalities in the area came up with the club as a way of empowering people on football.The club replaced the disbanded Wolaitta Tusa FC
The club got its nickname “Bees of Tona” from the infamous Wolaitta Kingdom leader “King Tona” in the 19th century.
The ownership of the club was transferred to the Zonal administration since their historic cup win that guaranteed them CAF qualification.It is important to note that in Ethiopia clubs are either tribal inclined or managed by administrative units .

The club pays its players very well and has a Togolese Arafat Djako formerly of Hawassa City and Russia’s Anzi Machakala who earns approximately USD 8000 among the highest in East Africa
They have maintained one coach since its inception in 2009 moving from the fourth tier up to the league.

As they move to the CAF play offs ,the club supporters who are among the largest in numbers in East Africa are promising to double their monthly contributions to make sure that CAF Confederations cup title is a reality
