The Kenya U17 team were beaten 2-1 and eliminated from the Cecafa Championship by their Tanzania opponents in a heated semi-final match played at Muyinga Stadium in Burundi on Wednesday evening.

Kenya took the lead in the 10 minute through marksman Isaiah Abwal while Tanzania equalized in the 30 minutes before they took lead late in the second half.

Tanzania will face favourites Somalia who booked a place in the final after beating Uganda 1-0.

Kenya will face Uganda in the third-place match. This will be the first time the two sides will meet in the championship.

Coached by Michael Amenga the youngsters had cruised to the semifinal on goal difference after they finished second behind Somalia in Group A of the tournament.

They had walloped Burundi 4-0, held by Ethiopia in a goalless draw before they were edged by Somalia.

The tournament prepared Kenya for the forthcoming 2019 Africa U17 Championship Qualifiers with the finals scheduled to be played in Tanzania.
