Former Ivory Coast captain Bognini N’Gatta Moïse has died aged 93.
Moise had been suffering from stomach cancer and lost his battle against the disease on Wednesday.
According to one of the deceased’s children, Bognini Eric, his father was being attended at home by family members but unfortunately at around 2 am, his health deteriorated and it was on the way to the hospital that he died.
Sidy Diallo, president of Ivory Coast Football Federation (FIF) told Soka25east: “Our deepest condolences to his family and friends for their loss, hope they find strength in these difficult times. The passing on of this legend saddens us.”
His family thanked “Moise’s friends, colleagues and members of the public” for the many messages of goodwill.”
The midfielder won several caps and will be particularly remembered for being the first captain national team in 1948 and also first skipper for local side, l’Union Sportive des Clubs de Bassam.
