Ghana champions, Aduana Stars will go all out for maximum points when they confront ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast in a CAF Confederations Cup match on Sunday.
This has been said by the club head coach Yusif Abubakar who assured the club followers that his wards will secure an away win over 1998 Africa champions in a Group A opener.
“Now we have the experience of playing in the African Club Championship, we believe that we can do more than enough to come out of the ASEC game with a good result. So far we have played three clubs; two in Champions League and one in this competition, so we know what to expect when playing away,”Abubakar remarked in an interview with CAF Online.
“This is our very first game at the Group stage of any CAF Club competition and we want to start on a good note”.
Going into the Sunday match, the Ghana Premier League champions have not been on their best form as they have three games in hand but their skipper Emmanuel Akuoko feels that has not hampered their form.
“We take it one match at a time and I personally don’t believe our participation in Africa has had any negative effect on our performance. On the contrary, it has rather helped us keep the team in shape and we are looking forward to it,” Akuoko said.
In what seems to be an assurance that his team has studied the opponent well Akuoko says that it is only two players who are threat in ASEC team.
“We know two of their top strikers, Komlan Agbegniadan and Ahmed Toure, both of whom we have played against on countless occasions in the league in Ghana before they left for Cote d’Ivoire. I believe that if we can keep these two in check, then we will return to Ghana with a good result,” goalkeeper Joseph Addo added.
The Dormaa-based based outfit are expected to land in Abidjan this afternoon three days before the match awaited game.
Aduana Stars made it into the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup after thrashing Madagascar’s Fosa Juniors by a 7-3 aggregate score line.
