Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) has officially launched an e-ticketing service at the Addis-Ababa Stadium with is aimed at reducing long queues before football games.

The service was outsourced from a technology company named Kifya Financial Technology PLC, who signed a five-year-agreement with the football governing body.

Codenamed by the provider as ‘ Yene Ticket’/ ‘My Ticket’ the payment service will see the technology company getting 1.5% of the entry fee as the 68% will be shared to the home side club and the remaining 20.5% goes to the federation.

After securing the deal in September 2017, the Ethiopia based financial Technologies Company had been taking a pilot project at the stadium for the past three months.

The tickets can be bought at any of Kifya’s agents across the city, shops around the stadium or via a mobile app starting from a week ahead of the match day.

The tickets have a barcode that can be scanned by the validator machines installed at the 13 entryways to the capital city stadium. Booking and buying a ticket via a mobile phone will be launched by next season.

The E-ticketing will be employed when the Ethiopia PL resumes with round 23 matches. The league has currently been suspended following an attack on a match officer. It will resumes immediately as soon as the FA fulfils the demands of the match officials.

Speaking on the inaugural ceremony, the Ethiopia Football Federation marketing officer Esayas Tafesse and Kifya’s manager Abenezer Wondwossen jointly explained their motive to implement the system in state stadiums in Hawassa, Mekelle, Bahir-Dar and Sebeta.
