Tanzania football giants Yanga are ready to take the fight to USM Alger in an all CAF Confederation Cup match affair come on Sunday 6 May 2018.
This will be the opening game for Yanga who were placed in the group D alongside Rayon Sports (Rwanda) and Gor Mahia (Kenya).
Speaking ahead of the match, secretary general Charles Mkwasa revealed the team is out to get maximum points and they will not be affected by unavailability of four key players.
“We have had a bad history of international championship especially in the home field. We need to change the results and be good, the key to doing so is to plan ahead for the preparation, “he said.
Yanga will miss the services of Ibrahim Ajib, Papy Tshishimbi, Obrey Chirwa, Kelvin Yondani with no reasons provided for their absence.
The Tanzanian side are expected to make a repeat of their 1995 form when they reached at Confederation Cup (CAF Cup Winners’ Cup) quarter-finals.
Their opponents in todays’ game USM Alger has regularly taken part in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) competitions.
USM Alger are the second Algerian club to reach the finals of the CAF Champions League, in 2015, losing the final 4–1 on aggregate to TP Mazembe.
The clash will take place in Algiers at the Stade du 5-Juillet-1962 starting from 22h00 East African Time and will be officiated by Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea.
