19-year-old French prodigy Kylian Mbappe pledged to give his US$22,455 (£17,000) per-game wage as well as bonuses to non-profit organizations.
Soccer wunderkind, Frenchman Kylian Mbappe, announced that he will donate his entire World Cup earnings to charity because he does not believe he should be paid to represent his country, the Mirror UK reported.
The 19-year-old pledged to give his US$22,455 (£17,000) per-game wage as well as bonuses to non-profit organizations. Mbappe-affiliate charity Premiers de Cordees – a children’s charity which focuses on the disabled – will also benefit. According to the Sun, the striker will donate his participation wage to a different association after every match.
The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) player etched his name into the World Cup record books by becoming France’s youngest-ever scorer at a major tournament.
Mbappe is no stranger to records, he is the world’s most expensive teenager and the second-most expensive player overall – behind fellow PSG player, Neymar – having moved from Monaco for a price tag of about US$219m (£166m).
The donation will include, Sports Illustrated reported, a possible sum of US$350,038 (£265,000) bonus if France win the World Cup.
