England are through to the quarter-finals of World Cup 2018 after a nail-biting penalty shootout victory over Colombia.
Harry Kane had put England into the lead shortly after half-time from the penalty spot after the striker was fouled by defender Carlos Sanchez, with the captain brushing himself down to score his sixth goal of the tournament to remain top goalscorer.
But Colombia displayed their incredible resilience to score in the 93rd minute through a well-executed header through defender Yerry Mina, sending the game to extra-time with the scores locked at 1-1.
With no splitting the teams after 30 additional minutes, the game headed to penalties with England slipping behind when Jordan Henderson’s effort was saved. However, Mateus Uribe rattled his effort off the crossbar before goalkeeper Jordan Pickford saved from Carlos Bacca, setting up Eric Dier to score the match-winning penalty and send England through to a quarter-final against Sweden. Here’s how the action unfolded.
