Zesco United’s 2018 CAF Champions League quarterfinal hopes went up in flames in Luanda on Friday night after squandering a one-nil lead to lose 2-1 away to Primeiro de Agosto.
The result left Zesco winless in Group D with 2 points and two matches left to save their slim hopes of making the top quarterfinal slots in Group D.
Zesco were second best in the first half that saw Jacob Banda the busier of the two goalkeepers.
But they improved after the break and took the lead in the 67th minute through John Chinagndu who rifled in a breathtaking long-range shot.
However, Zesco were let off the hook earlier in the 52nd minute when Bokamba Mongo saw his shot come off the post.
Meanwhile, Geraldo levelled matters in the 84th minute before turning provider for Unge Bobo who scored the winner with aplomb with a flying header in the seven minutes of stoppage time after the 90 minutes.
Agosto are second on 5 points, two points behind Etoile de Sahel who are in action late on Friday night at home against Mbabane Swallows in Sousse, Tunisia.
Swallows are third on 4 points.
