Kenyan international defender David Odhiambo Owino nicknamed Calabar has stated that it will all be about the pride of the flag and not club ties when Harambee Stars take on Chipolopolo of Zambia in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month.
The talented stopper is a sure start for the coach Bobby Williamson’s side when they face Zambia on Sunday,September 6 at the Nyayo stadium in Nairobi.
He was speaking during post match interview after his man of the match display in Zesco United’s 1-0 win over Konkola Blades in a Zambain Super League match played on Sunday, August 30 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
“It will be about the pride of the Kenyan flag. Kenya comes first, then afterwards I will come back to Zambia to continue with the league matches for my club.” Owino said.
Calabar scored the all important goal in the 51st minute to restore Zesco’s seven points lead on the log, earning himself man of the match accolade in the process.
Stars are expected in camp on Monday 31 to start preparations for the important match as they seek to record they first win of group “H”. Owino plus other foreign based pros are anticipated to jet in any time from tomorrow.
