The Confederation of African Football, CAF, will give the final decision over Cameroon as host of the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in November 2018.

The CAF  Executive Committee Meeting held on September 27 and 28 in Egypt, reached a decision that the final decision will be taken after the last Inspection vision programmed in November.

“The final decision will be taken in late November after the last inspection visit which will involve audit firm Roland Berger,” partly reads the decision.

The communique also states that, “beforehand, a joint CAF and FIFA Committee will travel to Cameroon in October to study security issues.”

While the new-24 team format of the competition is expected to be held from June 15 to July 13, 2019, the report from the last inspection team to Cameroon revealed a significant delay as far as the delivery of infrastructures is concerned.

Speaking to the media on Friday, the President of CAF, Ahmad Ahmad admitted that Cameroon’s preparations have progressed well since then, but that certain issues remain critical and a point of focus.

“The security Committee and the inspection team will visit Cameroon to assess the situation before a final ruling is made end of November. We watched a video showing some of the developments in Cameroon as per preparation and there are good changes, but not enough yet,” ” Ahmad told the media during a short press conference in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

CAF Director of Communications Nathalie Rabe later confirmed the November deadline to KweséESPN stating that some security issues in Cameroon need to be assessed together with the evaluation on the progress of the on-going work.

These assessments are coming after the hosting of the 2019 Total AFCON became a contentious issue following the CAF’s decision to expand the tournament from 16 to 24 teams.

Meanwhile, concerning the 2018 Total African Women’s Competition to take place from November 17 to December 1 in Ghana, the executive committee stated that the CAF Secretariat will closely monitor the progress of preparations.

The executive Committee also made it clear that the 2018 CAF Award will take place on January 8, 2019 at the Abdou Diouf International Conference Centre in Dakar, Senegal. Prior to this event, it was revealed that the first preparatory meeting was held on September 18 between CAF and the Senegalese Minister of Sports and other preparatory meetings will be held monthly in Dakar.

Following the recognition of the diversity of trophies for the same award, a new trophy for the African Player of the Year was adopted. According to the resolutions, the Women’s Player of the Year will also receive a new trophy while, all previous winners will receive the new trophy at the next CAF Awards ceremony.

Some countries during the meeting were Designated host for upcoming competitions. Congo was given the hosting rights of the Total Women’s AFCON 2020, Morocco as host of Futsal AFCON 2020 while Mauritania will host Total U-20 AFCON 2021. Total U-17 AFCON 2021 will be held in Morocco as well as Total CHAN 2022 in Algeria.
