The Normalisation Committee at the helm of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, says an extra-ordinary assembly of the country’s football house will take place on October 10 in Yaounde.
According to the communique from the Communication Department of the committee, the extra-general assembly will focus on the adoption of FECAFOOT status on the decentralized leagues, special leagues, financial regulations as well as the code of ethics and the electoral code of the body.
The present date of the exra-ordinary assembly is coming after the September 27 date was postponed to October. It is worth nothing that the mandate of the Normalisation Committee that was due to come to an end in August 2018 was postponed by FIFA to December 15.
Before December, the Committee is expected to adopt status and codes of ethics and organise free, fair and transparent elections. They are also expected to hand the command baton to the newly elected Executive Committee of FECAFOOT before December 15.
The Normalisation Committee was first installed back in 2013 headed by Prof. Joseph Owona. After extension of mandates, the committee finally elected a new executive that was led by Tombi A Roko Sidiki.
After disputing the credibility of the elections at the Chamber of Reconciliation and Arbitration of the Cameroon National Olympic and Sports Committee, Tombi A Roko Sidiki group was declared null and void in 2016.
After suspending football activities for government interference, the World Governing Body FIFA installed another committee headed by Barrister Duiedonne Happi to run the daily affairs of the federation, re-write the status, code of conduct and organized fresh elections to the house.
However, a major step was taken in June 2019 when the football laws of the country were adopted in the National Assembly paving the way for things to go but ever since, elections are yet to be conducted.
While observers say the Normalisation will not leave any time soon, Cameroon is looking forward to organise the 2019 Total AFCON after successfully hosting the 2016 Women AFCON that saw Nigeria emerged champions.
