Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF PL) chairman Nick Mwendwa has partnered with the media in a campaign aimed at mobilising Kenyans to go and cheer national team Harambee Stars against Zambia in their Africa Cup Nations qualifiers in Nairobi on Sunday.

Mwendwa has donated 20 Harambee Stars replica jerseys and 500 match tickets to be on offer in a promotion to be run in the media where fans will win either of the prizes ahead of the qualifiers.

The chairman said the promotion will be interactive where the media will engage fans in answering trivia questions about the national team and also offering ideas and opinion on how Harambee Stars can qualify for the African Cup of Nations and the World Cup in in Qatar in 2022.

He said the fans who will give the correct  answers and best ideas for the national team will win either a jersey or a ticket.

Mwendwa said each media house will be independent on determining how its going to run the promotion but it must be based on being interactive, give the trivia questions and asking fans to give ideas on the revamping of Harambee Stars.

“During the promotion i will also engage fans and stakeholders in some of the talk shows in discussing what is ailing the sport and the way forward towards its resurrection,” he said.

Mwendwa said he has come up with this concept so that Kenyans can be involved in determining the destiny and success of the national by being part and parcel of the initiative by giving ideas and going to the stadium to cheer the team in big numbers.

“I have realised that many Kenyans don’t even know the national team players apart from the professionals who include Dennis Oliech, captain Victor Wanyama, Arnold Origi and McDonald Mariga, so with this concept they will be sensitized and motivated to know and encouraged to attending Harambee Stars fixtures,” he said.

Mwendwa said it is unfortunate that Kenyan fans know of line ups of foreign teams or even speculate their first 11 ahead of a match but have no idea of their own national team squad which is a pity a reason which has made him to initiate the initiative.

Harambee Stars are topping Group ‘E’ standings with one point following their opening 1-1 draw against Congo Brazzaville away.
