Cedric Bakambu has shared his delight at winning the Chinese Cup with Beijing Guoan this past weekend. 

The Democratic Republic of Congo international joined Guoan on the final day of the Chinese transfer window in February from Spanish LaLiga outfit Villarreal, in what is believed to be an African transfer record. 

Bakambu has made an instant impact at the club and scored 23 goals in all competitions for the Chinese outfit, who beat Shandong Luneng on the away goals rule after a 3-3 draw to lift the Cup. 

In total, the 27-year-old made 28 appearances and also chipped in with seven assists. 

“We did it by winning the Cup final to complete an amazing season,” Bakambu told BBC Sport.

“You want to achieve success as a professional footballer and it’s a special feeling to celebrate in my first season in China.

“We knew it was going to be tough but the team stood strong with our fans solidly behind us.

“Now we can celebrate a tough season and focus on achieving more in the coming years,” he concluded.
