Dennis Oliech was the hero for reigning SportPesa Premier League side Gor Mahia as he scored the winner to help Gor Mahia beat Posta Rangers 2-1 in a match played on Wednesday 9th January at the Moi International Sports Center in Kasarani.
Gor Mahia opened the scoring in the 27th minute as Francis Kahata brought in a beautiful corner that Charles Momanyi headed in but Posta Rangers keeper Levis Opiyo parried it but Momanyi reacted fast to tap it in.
Posta Rangers levelled matters in the 40th minute when Brian Osumba found Francis Nambute with a low cross that forward utilised to score his second of the season.
Dennis Oliech scored the winner just before the breather, controlling a long beautifully, turned past Posta Rangers defender Gilbert Onsunga to thump in the winner.
Gor Mahia Head Coach Hassan Oktay says he was pleased with the result but not really the performance of the team.
“I am happy we got the three points but I think we played better against Bandari and Mathare United. I had to rest a few players as we have a very important game on Sunday (CAF Confederation Cup tie against New Stars de Douala). The team did not have good pre-season but they are getting better and fitter as they play matches,” Oktay said after the match.
He also heaped praises on match-winner Dennis Oliech.
“He has been working very hard and has got European experience. Young players can listen to him on and off the pitch and like I have been saying, he will be very important for the team. He is mentally very strong and I was impressed with his performance.”
Gor Mahia rises to fifth on the log with 10 points from 6 matches while Posta Rangers is fourteenth with 6 points having played the same number of matches.
