Asante Kotoko will travel to Al-Hilal Stadium in Omdurman to take on Sudanese giants Al-Hilal in their opening 2019 Caf Confederations Cup Group C encounter on Sunday.
The Ghanaian club booked their place in the group stages of Africa’s second-tier cup competition with victory over Kariobangi Sharks and Coton Sport, having been awarded a walkover in the first round of qualifying.
The Cameroonian FA’s failure to submit their second representative before the cutoff date handed the Porcupines an easy passage into the first round of qualifying where they duly dealt with their Kenyan counterparts.
Al-Hilal, on the other hand, edged Mukura Victory Sports in the playoff round to book their place in the CAFCC group stages. The Sudanese league leaders crashed out of Caf Champions League reckoning following defeat to Club Africain, but were handed a second bite at the continental cherry.
The Blue Wave will welcome back both Jumma Ginaro and Mohamed Darag. The duo missed the club’s most recent league outing.
Kotoko, or the Porcupines as they are affectionately known, have been dealt several blows in build-up to the clash. The two-time CAFCL winners will be without Abass Mohammed, Naby Laye Keita and Frederick Boateng for the match in Omdurman. Club captain Amos Frimpong will also undergo a late fitness test.
Egyptian match official Mahmoud El Banna will take charge of the clash.
