Egyptian Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhy and the president of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) Hany Abo Rida on Friday visited the venue of the 2019 African Cup of Nations draw, scheduled for 12 April, at the Great Pyramids of Giza.
Sobhy hailed the efforts made by the organising committee after being shown around the stage, the entrances and the VIP area.
The minister has said that the draw would be the best in the history of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and it would reflect Egypt’s abilities to host world-class sporting events.
He added that choosing the pyramids as the venue of the draw is meant to showcase Egypt’s history and to boost tourism.
Egypt was given hosting rights in January, replacing Cameroon after the West African nation faced delays in preparations.
The tournament will take place from 21 June to 19 July.
This year the top-flight competition will include 24 teams for the first time, instead of 16.
