Steve Regis Mvoue and Leonel Wamba Djouffo were on target as Cameroon overcame Guinea with a 2-0 win at the ongoing 2019 Total Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.
The 2003 tournament winners scored in both halves of the game to comfortably cruise past their counterparts at Chamazi Stadium on Monday afternoon.
Mvoue grabbed the opener in the 42nd minute of the game a lead that put them in the driving seat of the game.
Guinea came back in the second half with an improved possessive game plan but they were not good enough in the final third of the pitch, they managed only one shot on target in the entire game.
Later in the 72nd minute, Cameroon buried Guinea’s hopes of getting an equalizer with Djouffo’s fine strike which sealed three points for them.
A win increased Cameroon’s chances of making it to the semifinals of the tournament as well as qualifying for the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil. They need just one win from their remaining two games to reach the feat.
They are now on top of group B table with three points, their next two games are against Morocco and fellow West Africans Senegal on April 18th and 21st respectively.
Guinea who are now on the bottom of group B table may find it difficult to make it to the semifinals of the tournament as they need to win against Senegal and Morocco in their remaining group games.
