Nigeria beat Angola 1-0 in their second Group game of the 2019 U-17 AFCON competition at the National Stadium,Dar Es Salaam on Wednesday afternoon, with Olakunle Olusegun’s solitary goal proving the difference.
Golden Eaglets manager, Manu Garba largely elected to go with the same team that beat Tanzania last time out, opting for Sunday Stephen in place of Suleiman Shaibu in between the pipes.
Nigeria took the lead 20 minutes into the game in Dar Es Salam through the spot after Wisdom Ubani’s shot had deflected into the arm of an Angolan defender, with Olusegun Olakunle stepping up to dispatch the resultant penalty.
Angola were made to pay for their physical approach to the game in the second half when Cabingano was sent off for a dangerous tackle on an advancing Olusegun, earning a second yellow in the process.
Divine Nwachukwu on for goalscorer, Olusegun had a great chance to add to the scoreline six minutes from time after taking on two defenders but his effort went over the crossbar.
Following the win vs Angola, the Golden Eaglets are through to the semifinal of the U17 AFCON and yet to pick a ticket for the World Cup billed to be staged in Brazil later in the year they will have to wait for their last game against Uganda.
