Amavubi head coach Johnathan McKinstry has summoned 26 players to join camp at La Palisse Hotel Nyandungu on Monday to start preparations for the upcoming Fifa friendly match against Gabon due in Kigali on Saturday, September 12.
The friendly match against Gabon, hosts of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finals is part of preparations of Rwanda’s youthful squad ahead of Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) which will be held in Rwanda from January 16 to February 7, 2016.
The majority of players summoned were part of the Amavubi team which lost to Ghana 1-0 in the second Group H Africa Nations’ Cup qualifier played on Saturday, September 5, 2015 in Kigali.
The Amavubi team will face Gabon without the six of their professionals namely ; striker Quentin Rushenguziminega (Lausaane Sport, Swiss), Emery Bayisenge (Lask Linz, Austria), Salomon Nirisarike (Sint Truiden, Belgium), Niyonzima Haruna (Young Africans, Tanzania), Abouba Sibomana (Gor Mahia, Kenya) and Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza (Azam Fc, Tanzania), following their return to their clubs.
However, McKinstry has made some additions to the squad with seven players receiving call-ups to face Gabon. The new players summoned include goalkeeper Marcel Nzarora (Police), Amani Uwiringiyimana (unattached), Janvier Mutijima (AS Kigali), James Tubane (Rayon Sport), Mohammed Mushimiyimana (Police), Kevin Muhire (Rayon Sport) and Innocent Habyarimana (Police).
Meanwhile, APR left-winger Jean Claude Iranzi has been rested for Gabon friendly not on any performance grounds but McKinstry wants have a look at a few other players in this game.
The players will report to camp on Monday morning before resuming training in the afternoon with a light session.
