Tottenham Hotspur’s Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama has dismissed any talks of leaving the club, and has vowed to fight for his position in the starting line-up for the beginning of the 2019/2020 campaign.
Despite Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino bolstering his midfield options for the new campaign, the Kenyan international has promised to fight for his position, and vows to improve on last season: “There are always players that you have to battle for playing time, no matter which team you play for.
“There’s no reason why I should fall behind in the competition. To win the battle, I have to get better myself.”
Wanyama endured a positive start to his Spurs career after joining for £11m, as he quickly become a fan favourite at White Hart Lane.
However, the 28-year-old has been bogged down by injuries ,he played 22 times for Tottenham during the 2018/19 season, 13 of those outings coming in the Premier League.
He has a total of 93 appearances to his name in north London, with seven goals and a single assist to add to his record.
Wanyama is good enough to remain as an important squad player for Spurs, tipping him over 25-year-old Eric Dier in their inter-squad battle.Wanyama heralds the midfield options at Mauricio Pochettino’s disposal.
