FORMER Ghana International who plied his trade in England playing for Nottingham Forest and QPR star Junior Agogo has died, aged 40.

The former Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol Rovers striker passed away in a London hospital.

The Ghanaian 27-cap international was hospitalised in 2014 and 2015 after suffering a stroke – just two years after he retired from football.

Earlier this year, Agogo revealed he was still suffering from the after-effects of his stroke – including limited movement in his right hand.

He spent two months in hospital and later admitted he struggled with his speech – which left him lacking confidence and feeling isolated.

Despite his issues, Agogo was making the most of life before his death.

His posts on social media showed him checking into a hotel, hanging out at a bar and posing for pictures during a break.

Agogo will be remembered for his stellar African Cup of Nations performances in 2008, where he helped Ghana to third place.

All in all he scored 12 times for his country in just 27 games.

Agogo enjoyed a globe-trotting career that included spells in England, the US, Egypt and Greece.

But it all started at Sheffield Wednesday , where he came through the academy before going on to make a handful of appearances.

Struggling to get in the side, Agogo left for the MLS, where he played for Chicago Fire, Colorado Rapids and San Jose Earthquakes.

A few years later he was back in England, first with QPR, before he moved on to Barnet.

He banged in the goals during the 2002-03 season, which earned him a move to Bristol Rovers where he made over 100 appearances and scored 41 league goals.

In 2006 he joined Nottingham Forest  where he scored 20 league goals over a two year period.

That was his final club in England, after which he joined Egyptian side Zamalek and then went to Greece with Apollon Limassol

His final side was Hibernian, where he spent a season before announcing his retirement in 2012.

After hanging up his boots, Agogo revealed he wanted to open his own restaurant.

However, he instead turned his hand to his own fitness training business.
