Namibia beat Eritrea 2-1 at Denden Stadium in Asmara on Tuesday afternoon in a first-leg first round 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Victory puts the Brave Warriors firmly in the driving seat ahead of the reverse fixture in the Namibian capital next week.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 50th minute through the in-form Peter Shalulile. The Namibian attacker has been setting the South African league alight over the past few seasons, and carried his good form over to the national team; firing home in the 50th minute.
Namibia doubled their advantage albeit through rather fortunate circumstances eight minutes later, as the hosts put the ball into the back of their own net.
Eritrea, though, were not going down without a fight as they went in search of their first World Cup qualifying win and pulled a goal back in the 65th minute.
Spurred on by their home fans, the Red Sea Camels pushed forward in search of the equaliser, but it was ultimately not to be for the hosts.
The reverse fixture will take place at Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek on Tuesday, 10 September.
