CECAFA U-20 Challenge Cup Uganda 2019:

The 2019 CECAFA U20 Challenge Cup is set to kickoff on 21^st September when hosts Uganda play Eritrea in the second of the double header at 4 PM.

The first game of the tournament will be an early kick off when Sudan faces Djibouti at 2 PM.

There are 11 countries confirmed for this championship and these include hosts Uganda, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Kenya, Ethiopia, Zanziba, Tanzania, Burundi South Sudan and Somalia (Djibouti is already in the country).

Two venues will be used for the tournament; Gulu (Pece War Memorial Stadium) and FUFA Technical Centre Njeru.

Addressing journalists during a media briefing on Saturday morning at Imperial Royal Hotel in Kampala, the chairman of the tournament Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Darius Mugoye noted that Gulu was chosen after the passion expressed by a mammoth of fans who turn up for FUFA Drum Matches.

Mugoye was flanked by the CECAFA Secretary General Nicholas Musonye, CECAFA Media Manager and FUFA Executive Committee member Rogers Mulindwa and FUFA Deputy CEO in charge of football Decolas Kiiza.

‘We want to thank CAF and FIFA for pledging to support us especially youth and women. Rwanda will miss this tournament due the several engagements hence the budget can’t enable them to participate in the tournament. FIFA referees are set to officiate in this competition.’ Nicholas Musonye stated.

The opening Match, Semis and Finals are be held from Pece.

‘We want to call upon the fans to come support our boys, we thank CECAFA for giving us the opportunity to host the tournament. Gulu people are very enthusiastic to host this competition.Having been the Champions of the CECAFA U15 and U17, we look forward to wining this tournament as we build a strong national team since our dream is to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022.I want to thank the FUFA President for the efforts put in the development of football in Uganda’ Mugoye noted.

‘We want to thank FUFA and the media in Uganda who are always on top support CECAFA. The media engagement is crucial and important in promoting tournaments in the region. When we this tournament, we are marketing this country, as Government, we have security across all boarders. We want to ensure that all visitors are comfortable while in Uganda. After a tour and inspection, the venues plus accommodation facilities in the two selected areas’ Rogers Mulindwa remarked.

Group A matches will be hosted in Gulu while group B and C are to have their matches played at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

The opening match will be held at Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu.
