Talented and highly disciplined Eric Kariuki has been the Captain of Toto Sports Academy which is located at Impala Club Ngong Road – he was recruited to the U15 side in 2011 and has been instrumental for the team, among his achievements include being voted the best defender in the Leftfoot Sports Children’s League U15 in 2013.
Eric’s promising dream in the sport he loved so much however took a turn for the worse last year when he had a knock on his right ankle while training. At first he thought the pain would go away but that was not to be as it persisted even after seeking medical attention at a local clinic.
The wound refused to heal and the pain continued and he was referred to Mbagadhi Hospital and eventually to Kenyatta National Hospital where he was diagnosed with bone cancer.
To stop further spread of the disease, Eric’s leg had to be amputated as soon as possible.
The procedure took place at Meridian Equator Hospital, Nairobi West. To add salt to injury, the 15 year old Form Three student at Brother Beausang High School in Embulbul Ngong is still detained at the hospital since his mother who is a single parent cannot raise Kshs 150,000 which keeps pilling day by day for the treatment.
The family is now calling on well wishers to help them raise the amount; a major fundraiser to help offset the huge bill is slated for Sunday 20th September at their home in Kariobangi Village Embulbul Ngong.
