The situation in Kenya in regards to the Kenyan Premier League seems to be deteriorating with each passing day.The Kpl administrators have now asked the clubs to pay match-day officials on match days until a solution is reached.
The clubs which are themselves suffering will be forced to carter for the match officials wages and allowances going forward and yet some team like Sony Sugar even dished out a walkover at home failing to honour a match because of lack of funds for logistical purposes.
Speaking to www.soka25east.com Kenyan Premier League CEO Jack Oguda acknowledged the new development “We have found ourselves in this situation that is why a decision was arrived at for clubs to take care of referees expenses such as allowances”
“This is a resolution which was reached after the meeting with the clubs’ chairpersons. However, once we get the sponsor, we will refund the teams the money used on officials.”
Oguda says the payments will not put the integrity of the league into jeopardy owing to the manner it will be conducted.
“The money shall be paid during the pre-match meetings. Clubs will share the expenses equally, it will not be done after the match. This is to ensure the league maintains its integrity and no dirty games are played,” Oguda concluded.
Earlier on Thursday, the KPL announced the league will continue despite calls by several clubs to postpone it owing to financial struggles.
